The history of several attempts to form the Russian Association for the Advancement of Science (RAAS) is briefly outlined since the mid 19th century. Recently, such an organization has been established on 28 July 2011 in Moscow; Academician E.P. Velikhov was elected as its President. Various problems of biology and medicine discussed at the 3rd RAAS conference are shortly described.
