A monograph “Darwinian paradigms: The evolutionary myth in modern culture” (Darwinowskie paradygmaty. Mit teorii ewolucji w kulturze współczesnej. Kraków: Copernicus center, 2015. 398 pages) by Dominica Oramus is reviewed. The author provides the readers with a comprehensive picture of “evolutionary” plots in contemporary mass culture (chiefly English-speaking), with an emphasis on fiction, pop science books, and movies. It is shown that Darwin’s biography has been subjected to extensive “mythologisation”, and his ideas have influenced very diverse fields of modern non-scientific discourse.
Keywords: Darwin, popular culture, modern mythology, scientific biography.
