This review discusses presentations in the history of biology at the XXXVIII International Annual Sci-entific Conference of the St. Petersburg Russian National Committee for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences that was held in St. Petersburg Branch of Institute for the History of Science and Technology (October, 31, 2017). This Conference was devoted to 100th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia. One of the central themes was the development of Russian biology and lives of scientists in the dramatic time of the 1917 Revolution and post-revolutionary epoch. There were also reports about genetics, phytocenology, hydrobiology and even on the influence of natural theology on the theory of evolution. Some new sources for the history of bio-logy were presented at the meeting. Some reports clearly demonstrated the importance of the social and micro-historical studies for comprehension of natural science’s development and the possibility of the synthesis of the natural sciences and humanities in history of biology research.
