A very subjective review on the Semion Reznik’s book “Such a short life. Nikolay Vavilov and his time” (2017) based on the shocking impression. The tragedy of both brothers — genius of botany, biogeography and genetics, Nikolay, and outstanding physicist, Sergey, their life and death histories — so different and so identical under the ideological pressure in totally non-free country, — that’s what forces a reader to compare those and these times. We have a frightening opportunity to repeat our not so ancient horror because we don’t want not only to learn the historical lessons but even to make some effort to receive and comprehend this information. Reznik’s book is a brilliant example of documentary literature which affects a reader just as the best fiction.
