A Review of E.Iu. Basargina (ed.) «Russian academician G.I. Langsdorff and his travels to Brazil (1 ВОЗ-1829)» (St. Peterburg, 2016). This review represents an analysis of the published diaries of an almost forgotten expedition of G. I. Langs-dorf to Brazil in 1822-1829. The book contains a magnificent factual material and a lot of drawings made by the expedition’s participants. Most of illustrations were published for the first time in Russia. The authors also reveal the biography of G. I. Langsdorf. He had the German citizenship, but became a Russian scientist and a Russian consul in Brazil. Political and natural conditions in which the participants of the expedition to Brazil in 1822 — 1829 had to act, are shown in the book.
