В статье приведены сведения о первом съезде по прикладной ботанике, состоявшемся 23—28 сентября 1920 г. в Воронеже. Это было значимое для России событие, которое председатель Почетного президиума съезда A.A. Ячевский назвал «выдающимся в истории русской науки». Съезд собрал ведущих ботаников и специалистов-аграриев страны, занимающихся культурными растениями и опытной агрономией. на съезде работали секции, освещавшие место прикладной ботаники в сельскохозяйственном опытном деле; геоботанические исследования; экологию диких и культурных растений; фитопатологию; организационные вопросы. Прозвучало более 40 докладов, среди которых организаторы отметили доклады Б.А. Келлера, Л.А. Иванова, Н.И. Вавилова, В.Р. Заленского, В.Н. Хитрово. Особое внимание в статье уделено участию в съезде н.и. Вавилова.

The first and the only congress of applied botany in Russia

The paper provides information about the first congress on applied botany, held on September 2328, 1920 in Voronezh. This was a significant event for Russia, which the chairman of the Honorary Presidium of the Congress A.A. Yachevsky called «outstanding in the history of Russian science.» The congress brought together the leading botanists and agricultural specialists of the country dealing with cultivated plants and experimental work. At the congress, there were sections covering the place of applied botany in agronomy experimental work; geobotanical research; ecology of wild and cultivated plants; phytopathology; organizational matters. More than 40 reports were presented, among which the organizers noted the reports of B.A. Keller, L.A. Ivanov, N.I. Vavilov, V.R. Zalensky, V.N. Khitrovo. Particular attention in the paper is paid to the participation of N.I. Vavilov in the congress. At the request of the organizing committee, he made a report on the raw of homologous series in hereditary variability. Vavilov left his impressions of the congress in private letters, where in particular he wrote that the Congress as a whole was interesting, more than he could have expected… The resolution of the congress stated the rich content of applied botany in relation to agriculture, horticulture and forestry. The first congress of applied botany remained the only one in the history of Russian botany. Subsequently, meetings of applied botanists continued in the sections in other scientific forums and, above all, at Russian Botanical Society (RBS)’ congresses. In 1947, a section of cultivated plants was created in the RBS — the successor to the section of applied botany.
