В 2021 г. исполнилось 150 лет со дня рождения Андрея Александровича Рихтера (1871–
1947), крупнейшего учёного, ботаника и физиолога растений, ученика А.С. Фаминцына
и И.П. Бородина, приват-доцента Санкт-Петербургского университета, профессора
Пермского, Саратовского и Московского университетов, члена-корреспондента (1929)
и действительного члена (1932) АН СССР, организатора и первого директора Института
физиологии растений (ИФР) АН СССР (1934–1938). Его научные исследования заложи-
ли основу современных знаний о физиологических процессах растений, у него было много
учеников, продолжавших исследования в созданных им научных школах по изучению фо-
тосинтеза (А.А. Ничипорович), питания растений (Д.А. Сабинин), устойчивости растений
к внешним факторам и проблем иммунитета (К.Т. Сухоруков). Сообщение посвящено из-
учению жизненного пути А.А. Рихтера в контексте исторических эпох, его роли как обще-
ственного деятеля и организатора научных и образовательных учреждений, создателя новых
научных направлений и школ. Кроме свидетельств современников, использованы новые ма-
териалы — документы, хранящиеся в архивах, и в первую очередь письма В.Л. Комарову и
И.П. Бородину.

The year of 2021 marked the 150th anniversary of an outstanding Russian scientist — botanist and
plant physiologist, prominent organizer of science and founder of scientific institutions, public figure,
and academician Andrey Aleksandrovich Richter (August 15, 1871 — April 2, 1947). A student of
the distinguished botanists and plant physiologists A.S. Famintsyn and I.P. Borodin, he laid the
foundation for modern plant physiology research in photosynthesis and assimilation, physiological
basics of plant immunity, and agricultural plant physiology. He evolved into a brilliant experimenter
in the laboratories of the St. Petersburg (Russian) Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg University
at the beginning of the 20th century. Later on he established his own scientific school of physiologists,
which in different years included future academicians N.A. Maksimov, M.Kh. Chailakhian, professors
A.A. Nichiporovich, professors D.A. Sabinin and K.T. Sukhorukov to name a few. A.A. Richter was
one of the founders and rector of Perm University (1917–1923), the organizer of plant physiology
departments at Saratov University and Agricultural Institute, as well as the organizer and first director
of the Institute of Plant Physiology (Russian Academy of Sciences). Yet many facts of his biography
were largely forgotten and are unknown to the scientific community. During his life A.A. Richter went
through many trials and tribulations, but still maintained his humanistic beliefs and position of the
scientific truth and integrity proponent.
The paper is based on the new archival documents, first of all correspondence with academicians
V.L. Komarov and I.P. Borodin, and testimonies of contemporaries.
