The review introduces the VII International Conference of the European Society for the History of Sci-ence(22-24 September 2016, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic) “Science and power, Science as power”. Most of the reports were devoted to technical and engineering sciences, especially physics, but biological and medical sciences in their historical aspect were also represented very widely. Among the topics presented at the symposia were the history of science in crisis periods, the role of textbooks and handbooks as an instrument of power, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of Mendel’s research.
