Статья, написанная вдовой Г.В. Аркадьева, повествует о незаурядном жизненном и творческом пути талантливого художника, мастера музейного дела, изобретателя, конструктора, резчика по дереву, чертёжника, посвятившего своё многогранное дарование Ботаническому институту (БИН) Академии наук. Под его руководством и по его оригинальным замыслам были созданы постоянные экспозиции Ботанического музея, в том числе уникальная экспозиция «Растительность мира по ботанико-географическим областям». В 1935 г. он поступил художником в Музей БИН АН СССР, а в военное время сразу включился в группу сотрудников, отвечавших за жизнь и работу БИН. В декабре 1941 г. он был назначен заместителем директора института и участвовал в эвакуации его сотрудников (72 человека) в Казань, где примерно три года обеспечивал ботаникам условия для работы. В 1960 г. Г.В. стал главным художником нового Музея. Созданные им экспозиции посвящены многообразию растительного мира Земли, его научному изучению, развитию во времени и т.д. Они получили высокие оценки — как официальные, так и в отзывах посетителей музея. Этому способствовали многочисленные нововведения, разработанные Г.В. совместно с коллегами, касающиеся как техники экспозиций (небольшие стенды, экраны для проекций, многослойные диорамы, гравирование на срезах растений, рисунки иглой на слое китайской туши), так и использования новых материалов (плексигласа, линолеума). Эти и другие новые приёмы применялись в стендах БИНа на ВДНХ, где экспозиция получила премию. Г.В. разработал принципы музейного дела, главным из которых считал взаимопонимание специалистов, разработчиков темы, и художников — её воплотителей. С этой целью он тщательно изучал ботанику и стал мастером точнейшего «ботанического рисунка». Конструкторский дар Г.В. проявлялся в том, что по просьбе физиологов растений он по собственным чертежам изготовлял необходимые им приборы. Г.В. внёс существенный вклад в развитие музейного дела. Он не стремился к личной известности, вполне удовлетворяясь той «славой», которая была у него в кругу интересующихся музейным делом сотрудников Академии наук и музеев разных городов.

The article written by the widow of G.V. Arkad’yev tells of the outstanding life and creative path of a talented artist, a master of museums, an inventor, a designer, a woodcarver, a draftsman who devoted his many-sided talents to the St. Petersburg Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences (BIN). Under his leadership and in accordance with his original plans, permanent exhibitions of the Botanical Museum were created, including the unique exposition “Vegetation of the World in Botanic-Geographic Regions». In 1935, he entered as artist at the Museum of the Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and in wartime he immediately joined a group of employees responsible for the life and work of the BIN. In December 1941, he was appointed deputy director of the institute and participated in the evacuation of BIN people (72 people) to Kazan, where for about three years he provided the botanists with conditions for work and life. In 1960, G.V. became the main artist of the new Museum. The expositions created by him are devoted to the diversity of the plant world of the Earth, its scientific study, development in time, etc. They received high marks — both official and in the feedback of visitors to the museum. This was facilitated by numerous innovations developed by G.V. Together with colleagues, dealing with both the technique of expositions (small stands, projection screens, multi-layer dioramas, engraving on sections of plants, needle patterns on the layer of Chinese carcass), and the use of new materials (Plexiglas, linoleum). These and other new techniques were used in BIN stands at VDNKH, where the exposition received a prize. G.V. developed the principles of the museum business, the main one of which was the understanding of specialists, developers of the topic, and artists — its implementers. To this end, he carefully studied botany and became a master of the finest “botanical drawing.» His design gift was manifested in the fact that, at the request of plant physiologists, he made the necessary devices by his own drawings. G.V. made a significant contribution to the development of museum work. He did not seek personal fame, quite satisfied with the “glory” that he had in the circle of people interested in museum affairs of the Academy of Sciences and museums of different cities.
